NEW DELHI: A complaint was on Tuesday filed with police here against Hollywood star Richard Gere and Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty over the controversial kissing incident.

The complainant, a social activist based in East Delhi, has sought action against Gere for the "obscene act" and Shetty for "encouraging obscenity."

The complaint was filed at Manasarovar police station, but no case was registered in this regard as northeast Delhi police said it does not have the territorial jurisdiction to do so.

"The incident has hurt the sentiments of Indians. I want action against both of them," Subodh Jain, who had earlier filed a complaint against cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for allegedly dishonouring the tricolour, said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast Delhi) Jaspal Singh said that "we do not have the territorial jurisdiction to lodge a case in this matter as the incident took place in another district."

Gere had repeatedly kissed Shetty on stage at a function in northwest Delhi on Sunday night, an act which evoked strong protests from Hindu outfits in several cities. The function was organised as part of a campaign to create AIDS awareness.
