Alarm bells are ringing for the security forces after a friend of a private school's principal, who was allegedly killed in custody, ranged himself with the terrorist in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

Shahid Manzoor, who claimed to be a friend of principal Rizwan Asad Pandit, released a picture brandishing a gun and a 3.5-minute audio clip announcing he has have joined Hizbul Mujhadeen.

A resident of New Colony, Awantipora, Shahid has been code-named after Rizwan, the 28-year-old principal who was arrested on Sunday night from his home. But on Tuesday, his family was informed that he had died in custody. Jammu and Kashmir police have ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident.

"I seek apology from my family but I had no other option...The government is claiming that the culprits will be punished. But in reality nothing will happen and nobody will be punished. This is just an eyewash to calm people down," Shahid said in the audio message.
