Army, civil dept officials begin rescue operation

JAIPUR: Panic struck Neenda village in Jaipur after a six-year-old boy fell into a borewell while playing on Wednesday evening. Army and civil administration have been pressed into action to rescue Suraj Banjara.

A parallel pit has been dug to reach Suraj, sources said. Army and civil department officials are jointly working to rescue the boy, whose voice could be heard from inside the borewell.

Suraj’s mother, who became unconscious after the incident, has been admitted to a hospital. Oxygen is being pumped into the borewell and proper electricity arrangements have also been made to prevent the six-year-old from asphyxiation, a senior police official said.

Education minister Ghanshyam Tiwari and irrigation minister Sanwarmal Jat also visited the site to oversee the rescue operation. Tiwari said two more machines have been requisitioned to accelerate the digging operation.
