KOZHIKODE: Six people, including three CPI(M) workers and a BJP volunteer, were injured when activists of both the parties clashed with each other at Koyilandy near here on Saturday, police said.

Trouble broke out when suspected BJP workers uprooted a pole erected by the pro-Left DYFI near the bus stand this morning apparently in retaliation to an attack on a BJP volunteer in the area last night, the sources said.

A group of CPI(M) men reportedly attacked a BJP sympathiser in front of a shop soon, they said, adding the injured had been rushed to the Medical College hospital.

Violence continued in the area and a CPI(M) worker was stabbed inside a bus. Two women passengers also received minor injuries, police said.

A protest march taken out by CPI(M) and DYFI later was disrupted as suspected BJP workers pelted stones at the marchers. Two CPI(M) activists were injured.

Additional police forces had been deployed in the area to check further outbreak of untoward incidents.
