SRINAGAR: Militants shot dead a political activist and wounded 25 people in six grenade attacks in Kashmir on Wednesday as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a first round of talks, the police said. 

Khazir Beig, 60, an activist with the People’s Democratic Forum, died in the central district of Budgam, police said. 

Sixteen civilians, three paramilitary soldiers and six policemen were wounded in six grenade attacks in Srinagar.
