In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a video of two men thrashing an elephant has gone viral on the internet. Allegedly shot by the locals, the video shows the elephant tied to a tree in a secluded area and being thrashed by two men with sticks.

As per reports, the incident happened inside a rejuvenation camp for elephants in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. It has been reported that the animal was being punished after he dropped the mahout from his back.

Both the mahout and his assistant have been booked, according to a report in The New Indian Express. Vinil Kumar and his assistant Sivaprasad have been booked under the sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, a Times Now report said.

A total of 26 elephants Thekampatti in Coimbatore district from several places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on February 8 for the rejuvenation camp.

The incident comes a month after some people in Masinagudi village threw a burning tyre on an elephant to chase it away. The animal was seriously injured and died on his way to the medical camp for treatment. Three people were reportedly booked for allegedly killing the elephant.
