When during the Olympics last year writer Shobhaa De implied that the goal of the Indian contingent was to use it as an opportunity to take selfies, waste money, and return empty handed, it did not go down well with the nation’s populace. Her original tweet was met with vitriolic reactions that ranged in intensity, but were unanimous in reacting to such a careless statement.

On Friday, she apparently decided to stir the pot again, this time with a tweet directed toward Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj saying, “Sushma Swaraj : Resolution for 2017 - Keep calm and stop tweeting.” Going by the regularity with which Sushma Swaraj has been choosing to interact with people for visa-related issues via the popular social media channel, it’s easy to see why the responses to this statement on Twitter came thick and fast. Since her original tweet on Friday afternoon, it has received over 1,200 replies.

Here are some of the most significant reactions:

Monica Jasuja @jasuja: @DeShobhaa Shobha De : Resolution for 2017-Keep calm and stop your “Shobha-isms”(dictionary meaning-creating controversy to willingly invite criticism)

Sir Ravindra Jadeja @SirJadeja: .@DeShobhaa : Resolution For 2017 - Tweet Aisa Karo Jo Shobhaa De. ;)

Dhruv Dube @Dhruvdube: @DeShobhaa sometimes i wonder if you really are an idiot or you just tweet dumb stuff to stay in the news. This has been bothering me for ages

Shalini Gupta @shalini8282: @DeShobhaa actually this resolution should be yours

SAGAR VORA @sagarvora411: @DeShobhaa Those tweets help the Indians abroad who are stuck and need help. Your tweets add no value to society Shobhaaji
