Virtually putting a spanner in BJP's hopes of an alliance in the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in 2019, senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that the party will contest these polls alone. Raut's comments come after BJP President Amit Shah had a two-hour long meeting with Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday. While Sena refused to react, BJP sources had said that the meeting was positive.

But seems like Sena is continuing to stick to a hardline for now. Sanjay Raut was quoted by ANI as saying, "  We know what the agenda of Amit Shah ji is but Shiv Sena has passed a resolution that we'll contest all upcoming elections on our own. There will be no change in that resolution"/ 

BJP president Amit Shah had a busy schedule on Wednesday. As a part of the Sampark for Samarthan exercise, Shah met actor Madhuri Dixit, industrialist Ratan Tata and also visited the Siddhivinayak temple. However, all eyes were trained on the crucial meeting between with Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and Shah's efforts to mend the  brused  alliance between the two allies.Relations between two allies have already hit rock bottom. Ahead of Wednesday's meeting, an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamna said, "Ties between the people and the BJP have snapped and now for the BJP, relationships are business calculations." However, hours before the meeting, the BJP president said on Zee TV 24 Taas that Sena and his party would definitely fight the 2019 polls together.The two-hour long meeting between the two titans was divided into three sessions. The first was between Shah and Thackeray alone. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray joined them in the second round. Third and the final round was again between both party chiefs only.Sources privy to the meeting said that Shah made a strong pitch for the alliance to continue in the coming polls, especially as opposition parties are coming together with the sole agenda to defeat the current BJP alliance in power. Shah is believed to have assured Thackeray that BJP does not intend to alienate its allies.On his part, Thackeray had a litany of complaints about BJP's utter neglect and increasing dominance over Sena. He also is believed to have aired his anguish over how in a bid to expand is tentacles nation wide, BJP had strayed from its original Hindutva agenda. Instead, it had made anti-citizen blunders such as demonetization, GST and indulged in open minority appeasement. The leader is also reported to have complained to Shah about how Sena is ignored in the Fadnavis government.With inputs from DNA Correspondent
