Both the leaders of the Shiv Sena, which has the highest number of corporators in the BMC, were elected to their posts unopposed since the other parties, i.e. the BJP, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) did not contest the BMC polls this year.

Pednekar, while starting her term, said that Mumbaikars should focus on saving water and start travelling by the city's Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses to reduce congestion on roads and to reduce pollution. She said talked about the importance of municipal officials focusing on pothole-free roads.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi started cleanliness campaign. We should also be part of this. We should also clean Mumbai with everyone`s participation," Pednekar told reporters here after being elected.

Other points in her agenda were facilitating better health, education and ensuring clean drinking water to people, in addition to improving civic amenities and keeping the city safe and secure.
