Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray addressed a rally at Shivaji Park ground in Dadar, Mumbai. Sena sources said he would lay down the line for party leaders on the stance to be taken vis-à-vis the BJP.

At the rally, Thackeray took direct potshots at BJP.

He said, "Balasaheb would be proud to see that we're still tigers. We are still tigers, but others have become lambs. Like Ram waged war against Ravana, action should be taken against Pakistan. Our friends and enemies (Pak) are having close watch on what I say here. Why 'Gai Pe Charcha', there should 'Mahagai Pe Charcha'. Our bond is with people, not with power. Whatever we think is right, we will say so. We don't care what anyone feels. Won't break ongoing good Sansar. We know when to fall out, no need for anyone to teach us. "

He also said that the BJP says they "will build the Ram temple in Ayodhya but refuse to tell the date." (Mandir Wohi Banayenge, lekin Tarikh Nahi Batayenge)

Shiv Sena got the clearance from the Bombay High Court to hold the rally at Shivaji Park in Mumbai this year after separate applications moved by the BJP-led Maharashtra government and Shiv Sena, which also is part of the state government.

The applications were opposed by Wecom Trust and Awaz Foundation saying the noise pollution rules debar use of loud speakers in a silence zone.

The party, which has recently crossed swords with the BJP over its opposition to sporting and cultural ties with Pakistan, is caught in a cleft. It is unable to reconcile itself to the "humiliation" of losing the dominant position it held for two-and-a-half decades in the saffron alliance to the BJP but is unwilling to walk out of power.
