Amid renewed tension between the Shiv Sena and the BJP ahead of Maharashtra Assembly elections, leaders of the two parties clashed with each other at Mira-Bhayandar municipal office on Tuesday over a memorial for Bal Thackeray.
Angry over non-approval of Balasaheb Art Gallery, Shiv Sena corporators of Mira Bhayandar ransacked the auditorium in the building.
They also came close to exchanging blows with the BJP corporators and exchanged angry words.
A video of Shiv Sena corporators ransacking the auditorium has gone viral on the social media.
While the BJP has 62 corporators in Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, Shiv Sena has 22 members. The mayor - Dimple Mehta - belongs to the BJP.
This comes as both the parties are engaged in talks for seat-sharing for the state elections. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray convened a meeting of party leaders at his residence ‘Matoshree’ on Sunday and reportedly asked them to be ready to go solo if talks with the BJP fails.
Reports say that while the Sena wants 50:50 formula for 288 seats, BJP is aiming to contest on more number of seats.
