PATNA: Law has finally caught up with controversial RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin. The Siwan constituency strongman has been convicted by a special court in one of his criminal cases pertaining to assault and abduction of a CPI-ML office secretary, Keshav Baitha.

Although Shahbuddin faces around 40 criminal cases, this is the first time he had been convicted in any case. Judicial Magistrate VV Gupta, who is hearing around 25 cases against Shahabuddin, has pronounced him guilty and the quantum of punishment would be announced on Friday.

The FIR was lodged 1998 and Shahabuddin was charged of attacking the CPI-ML party office with henchmen and after assaulting them, abducted one Keshav Baitha at gun point. He was released after warnings of not to depose against the MP. However, Baitha lodged a case against him.

Shahabuddin has been representing Siwan in the Lok Sabha for the last four consecutive terms  and
was considered a law unto himself.
