RAMESWARAM: Seven people were injured when the bus they were travelling in rammed into a speeding train at an unmanned level crossing near here on Friday.

Though the driver of the bus, on seeing the Madurai-Rameswaram passenger train, applied the brakes, still the vehicle hit the fourth bogie of the train.

It was a providential escape for the passengers as even a delay of a minute on the part of the driver in applying the brakes could have led to a tragedy, eye-witnesses said.

Seven people, including the driver, sitting in the front rows were injured, police said.

All the injured had been hospitalised, they said.

The train, which came to a halt after the accident, continued its journey after a 30-minute delay.
