Seven children including four girls were injured on Friday, two of them seriously, in a blast at Rohini village in Deogarh district of Jharkhand.

The blast took place when the children picked up an abandoned bag lying near a pond in the village, superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik said on Friday.

The bag might have contained some explosive material which triggered the blast after the children handled it, Kaushik said adding samples will be sent to explosive experts to determine the substance.

All the injured were between five and seven years of age, the SP said.

One boy identified as Sivam Barnawal received serious wounds in his right hand and was referred to the Bokaro General Hospital.

Deputy commissioner Mastram Meena said all the injured will get free medical treatment.
