Districts have been divided into security and peace zones and all these zones have peace committees with prominent citizens, religious persons and people of various faiths and walks of life as members, police said.
Ahead of the Allahabad high court's verdict on Ayodhya title suits tomorrow, an alert has been sounded in Jammu to maintain peace, communal harmony and law and order, police said today.
"Police and other security agencies have been put on alert. Peace committees of various religions have been set up in the districts to maintain communal harmony, peace and law and order," senior officials said.
Reviewing the law and order situation here today divisional commissioner, Jammu Zone, Pawan Kotwal and inspector general of police, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta directed the District Police chief to hold interactions with the committees in their districts.
State Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda asked senior police officers to maintain close coordination with each other and directed them to take firm action against anyone trying to disturb peace and tranquillity in the region.
Sufficient forces are available to deal with any situation in the region, DGP said.
