The traffic cops have decided to have adequate lighting system in place and install search lights on roads through which the Rath Yatra procession is to pass. This is being done to improve vigilance and keep an eye for any kind of suspicious activities. Talking about the security system in place for the yatra, joint commissioner of police (traffic), Mohan Jha, said, "We have begun preparations as per the regular annual exercise. However, this time we are going to install more high-powered searchlights to keep an eye on activities around the area.""Rath Yatra extends into the night too. During the day people generally do not dare to do any mischief and even if somebody does it is easy to find out," Jha said. He said the same was not true during the evening and late night. "The high-powered search light helps keep an eye on any activity from a distance," he said. Apart from this, the cops will also check on the streetlights to ensure that they are in working condition. Moreover, five thousand policemen will stand guard on routes through which the procession will be taken. The Ahmedabad police have also demanded paramilitary and special forces for the day. To ensure a foolproof security plan the state home minister on Tuesday called a joint meeting between Joint Commissioner of police (traffic), Commissioner of police, Ahmedabad, Joint Commissioner of police of sector 1 and 2, additional DG, state intelligence and home secretary to discuss the law and order management plan for the city on the day of the event.
