Following the footsteps of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, union minister of state for Communications and IT Jyotiraditya Scindia spent a night at a village and slept on a cot of a scheduled caste person.

Scindia reached Devkhedi village last night around 10 pm and knocked the door of Gokalia, a villager, without any scheduled programme.

Stunned by seeing a member of the Scindia family, which had ruled the region for ages, Gokalia offered him a seat on a cot.

Scindia took the opportunity to interact with him and have a first-hand experience of the problems of the village.

Later, Gokalia mustered lot of courage and asked Scindia, who is popularly called 'Maharaja' in the area, to have food at his residence, to which the minister heartily accepted.

While the family members of Gokalia was busy preparing 'Dal-Bati' for Scindia, he interacted with other villagers who had gathered outside the hut to have a glimpse of him.

After having dinner, Scindia decided to spend the night in the hut itself and asked all those accompanying him to proceed to Ashoknagar.

Later on Sunday at Ashoknagar, Scindia told reporters that the visit was not pre-planned and the idea of spending a night at a village occurred to him during Apka Sansad Apke Duar(Your MP at your door) programme.

Last year during a visit to Madhya Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi had spent a night in a village in Chhatarpur district.
