The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a petition seeking deferment of the Commonwealth Games to save the country from a "national shame" and allow the government machinery to devote time for providing relief to flood victims.

No sooner the petition came up for hearing before a bench headed by chief justice SH Kapadia, advocate Ajay K Agrawal, who had filed the petition realised that his petition was not going to entertained and submitted that he was withdrawing his plea.

He said since things have improved, he was for the games but sought a thorough probe into the alleged corruption highlighted by the media.

However, the advocate was told by the bench that it was going to dismiss the petition.

Sensing that his petition was going to be rejected, Agrawal pleaded that he be allowed to withdraw it.
