NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to grant interim bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan Yadav alias Pappu Yadav.

Pappu Yadav is in Tihar jail for alleged involvement in trade union leader Ajit Sarkar’s murder.

A bench comprising Justices SB Sinha and PK
Balasubramanyan issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation on his bail application and granted liberty to the petitioner to mention the matter for hearing when the process is complete.

The court granted six weeks to the petitioner to serve the respondent.

The RJD Lok Sabha member was shifted to
Tihar jail in Delhi when he was spotted campaigning in Patna during the last assembly elections despite being in jail as per a Supreme Court order.

Ajit Sarkar was murdered in Patna, allegedly by the petitioner and his supporter.

Senior Counsel R K Jain appearing for Pappu Yadav told the court that only police witnesses remained to be examined by the trial court and public witnesses had been examined and therefore, the possibility of Yadav intimidating witnesses in the case was ruled out.

Pappu Yadav's application for permission to attend Parliament is pending since July 2005 in the Supreme Court.
