According to the report filed by The Indian Express, the proposal formulated by the judges deals with formalising a “rational, orderly and transparent system” to allocate cases to different benches of the Supreme Court.

On January 16, CJI Misra met the four dissenting judges and discussed 'issues' with them amid the ongoing judicial crisis.

The four judges -- Justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph -- had mounted a virtual revolt against the CJI at a press meet in Delhi raising a litany of problems including assignment of cases, and said there were certain issues afflicting the country's highest court. However, on Monday they attended court and took up routine work.

On Sunday, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra had met a seven-member delegation of the Bar Council of India and Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh and had assured them that the crisis would be sorted out soon and congeniality would prevail.

On the same day, a group of jurists, comprising retired judges wrote to CJI Misra stating that sensitive and important cases including pending ones must be dealt with by a Constitution Bench of five senior-most judges.

The jurists are former Supreme Court judges PB Sawant, AP Shah, K Chandra & H Suresh and in the letter they have said that while the Chief Justice is the master of the roster, it does not mean that it (selection of judges) can be done in an arbitrary manner that sensitive and important cases are sent to handpicked benches of junior judges."
