Ranjit Savarkar, grandson of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on Sunday said that he will file a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for the Congress leader's remark on the Hindutva icon at the 'Bharat Bachao Rally' at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Saturday.

He also said that he will meet with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the remark made by Rahul Gandhi, adding that the Sena should end its alliance with the Congress.

"Shiv Sena must choose party ethics over politics, the party must end the alliance with Congress," he said.

"We should not insult our freedom fighters and leaders. Congress is insulting Savarkar to take on Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena should remove Congress ministers and run a minority government as BJP is not going to vote against them," he added.

He also took a dig at former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, by saying, "Nehruji was so devoted to his oath of slavery that even after India became independent on August 15, 1947, he considered King George to be the Emperor of India till 1950 and took permission from him for all important decisions. Even when Rajaji was made Governor-General in April 1949, the permission of King George taken. Only such people can insult patriots like Savarkar!"

"It is noteworthy that the government refused to provide cannon for Savarkar's funeral, but when Nehruji's dear friend, Lady Mountbatten, died, the Indian Navy warship 'Trishul' was sent there. Is the country a private fief of this family? This Congress is no longer a pre-independence patriot Congress, it has become a slave dynasty party," he added.

On Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP government for asking him to apologise over his 'Rape-in-India' remark. Addressing the issue, he said, "I was told in Parliament by BJP yesterday, 'Rahul ji, you gave a speech. Apologise for that.' I was told to apologise for speaking something correct. My name is not Rahul Savarkar. My name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologise for truth."

In his statement, Congress alluded to the Veer Savarkar, a freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue who wrote petitions to British Government requesting his release from Celluar jail in Andaman.

Putting their ideological differences aside, Shiv Sena forged an alliance with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to form the government in Maharashtra, and in the process breaking a 30-year-old alliance with the BJP.
