Sarathkumar supporters protest I-T raid; removed by police

Supporters of actor-turned politician Sarathkumar today jostled with the police, protesting against the income tax searches conducted at his residence here.

On learning about the searches, a large number of supporters of Sarathkumar, who heads the All-India Samathuva Makkal Katchi, converged at his residence.

They started protesting against the I-T action even as Sarathkumar appealed to them to remain calm, mingling with them in the melee.

However, the agitated supporters remained unmoved, prompting the police to intervene and disperse them.

Later, flanked by his wife actress Radhika, Sarathkumar condemned the raid and said the I-T officials persisted in their demand to meet him even when he was having his bath.

The AISMK leader, who has extended support to the AIADMK (Amma) faction led by V K Sasikala in the April 12 RK Nagar bypoll, said though the officers were doing their duty, he felt it was an attempt to prevent him from campaigning.
