According to the latest update, former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s anticipatory bail petition has been rejected by the District Court judge, while the CBI's petition to issue a Non-bailable Warrant (NBW) against Kumar is still pending.

Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Pankaj Srivastava today said that the investigating agency has already moved the Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) petition against former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar. He added that a special team has been formed for this purpose with officers from the CBI office at Salt Lake in Kolkata.

A Barasat court on Tuesday had asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to approach the Alipore court for moving an NBW against ADG CID Rajeev Kumar. The court said that it does not have the jurisdiction to pass NBWs.

CBI had moved the court seeking an NBW against Rajeev Kumar after the ex-Kolkata top cop failed to appear before it even after being summoned in the Saradha chit fund scam case and filed anticipatory bail plea in the Barasat district judge court.

Earlier in the day, Rajeev Kumar had approached the Barasat trial court to file his anticipatory bail plea but the court didn't accept it and asked him to go to the competent court.

The ex-Kolkata top cop had earlier skipped CBI summons as he was asked to appear before it for questioning in the Saradha scam case.

On Monday, the former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar was summoned to appear before CBI for questioning, however, he didn't turn up.

Prior to that, investigating agency submitted a letter to the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary summoning Kumar in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam case.

Earlier on Saturday, Kumar did not turn up before the agency despite being summoned after the Calcutta High Court withdrew protection from arrest granted to him in the case.

Kumar, was part of a special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the state government to probe the scam before the Supreme Court transferred it to the CBI.

Previously, the CBI had said that it needs to interrogate the former Kolkata police commissioner as he is accused of tampering with evidence.
