Mehraj Shaikh, a convict and ‘former’ husband of Manyata, wife of Sanjay Dutt, has written a letter to the Bombay high court from Arthur Road jail alleging that the actor kidnapped his son in December last year. Shaikh complained that although he wrote to NM Joshi Marg police station, there was no response from them. The letter from jail has been turned into a criminal writ petition. “The court has given us (state government) four weeks to file an affidavit in reply,” said additional public prosecutor Mankunwar Deshmukh. In 2008, Shaikh was convicted by a Bandra metropolitan court for sending lewd messages to Bhojpuri actress Nagma.  Shaikh has alleged that Dutt’s “underworld friends” kidnapped his 6-year-old son, Mustafa, on December 24, 2009 “near ACP office”. Dutt, he said, threatened to kill him and his family members if he did not withdraw the case. Shaikh had filed an appeal against the sessions court order exonerating Dutt of bigamy and adultery charge. Shaikh had claimed that his wife, Dilnasheen (Manyata), had not divorced him before marrying Dutt. Shaikh claimed that Dutt’s friends had implicated him in the obscene sms case. Dutt, he said, sent his “underworld friends” to his Hyderabad home who told his family that “if Shaikh does not lesson (listen)” to the actor, he would not return Mustafa. Dutt, he said, instructed him to announce at a press meet that he had divorced Manyata.
