Fuel products like petrol and diesel, lubricants and cooking gas would become dearer from Wednesday in Mizoram as the state government hiked the rates of local sales tax on the products. With sales tax on petrol rising from 18% to 25%, the present price of petrol at Rs61.16 would become Rs64.70 per litre while the diesel price would go up to Rs38.30 per litre, official sources said. The sales tax on LPG also increased from two per cent to four per cent, the sources said. The hike in the oil prices came a week after the Centre increased the prices of petrol by around Rs5 a litre and drew a lot of flak from many quarters.Youth wings of the opposition - Mizo National Front (MNF), Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) and the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) - would be meeting in Aizawl tomorrow to chalk out a programme to launch agitation in protest against the oil price rise, MNF party leaders said.
