Former ace batsman and member of Rajya Sabha, Sachin Tendulkar sought speedier development in his adopted village of Donja in Osmanabad district during a visit to monitor development work.

With a population of 2,800 people, Donja was adopted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and as per the scheme, Tendulkar gave Rs 4 crore from his MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds for infrastructure development. The first village he adopted under the scheme was Puttumraju Kandriga in Andhra Pradesh. Donja was to have access to potable water through pipelines that would fetch it from water tanks.

Besides that, a new school building, sewage system and concrete roads were part of the plan. InDiya Foundation, an organization associated with Tendulkar, has also undertaken a project to provide solar energy-based lighting solutions to the school, besides other public amenities. Donja was declared an ODF (Open Defecation Free) village in November 2016 after Tendulkar adopted it.

After meeting the area's collector, Tendulkar addressed the crowd, saying, "I am overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and spirit, and hope that all of us can work together towards development of the village. The initial challenges in implementing development work have been successfully overcome and I am sure that execution of work will pick up speed. We want to showcase Donja's development as a casestudy for other villages across the country." He also played cricket with some children from the local school.
