Security and economic challenges facing the country were thoroughly discussed on the opening day of the three-day Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) meet in Vrindavan on Friday.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat lauded the deft handling of Doklam imbroglio by the Modi government and called it a major foreign policy victory. Bhagwat also hailed Centre's zero tolerance policy on corruption as well as steps taken to speed up industrialisation.
Though a few RSS leaders raised demonetization issue and the criticism faced by the government in the media, BJP national president Amit Shah silenced critiques saying that it has had a positive impact on the Indian economy and helped in checking circulation of black money.
Bhagwat also took feedback from about 180 representatives from 35 frontal organisations of the RSS on security and economic issues. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley are expected to dwell at length on both issues respectively on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will present his government's six-month report card on Saturday. BJP sources said that the CM is expected to brief RSS about steps taken by his government against illegal slaughter houses, streamlining functioning of madarsa, waiver of farmers' loan.
Adityanath is also expected to clarify doubts relating to deaths of children at the BRD Medical College in his hometown Gorakhpur.
