Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the government will spend Rs 1200 crore for development of rural areas and that Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) will be allocated Rs250 crore this financial year."It has been decided to directly transfer the amount of grant to bank accounts of PRIs every year on recommendations of the State Finance Commission," he said, while addressing newly-elected representatives of PRIs.In the recent elections to PRIs in Haryana, more than 68,000 representatives, including over 24,800 women, were elected.Recently the state government constituted the Fourth Finance Commission to improve financial health of PRIs, Hooda said, adding an assistance of Rs 455 crore was given to PRIs in the last five-and-a-half years.Out of this, Rs 205 crore was spent for development works in areas of members belonging to Scheduled Castes, he said.The chief minister said under the Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Basti Yojna, 3.27 lakh plots of 100 sq yards each have been allotted.
