Within 24 hours of joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Keshridevsinh Zala, crown prince of the erstwhile state of Wankaner, started his political innings on Monday by meeting local workers. The Wankaner scion joined the saffron party on Sunday in the presence of 18 royal families including two from Rajasthan and chief minister Narendra Modi. The function was held at Wankaner royal palace. A pleased Zala said, "I am very happy to be a part of BJP and have already started working for my people by meeting members of local kisan cell and minority cell on Monday." "I want to serve the people and will be available anytime to address their grievances," he added.  Digvijayzsinhji, Zala's father was environment minister in Indira Gandhi's government and a two-time Congress MLA. During the function, members of the royal family hailed Modi for the developmental work in the state. Speaking on the occasion, Modi said, "Most of the states in the country are facing electricity problems but in Gujarat, electricity is available round the clock." He further said, "Where the country has failed to achieve four percent growth rate in agriculture, Gujarat has emerged as the only state to maintain over 10% growth rate in the past 10 years."
