Taking suo motu cognisance of the alleged rape of a 21-year-old gangrape surivor in Haryana's Rohtak district, the National Commission for Women has written to the state police chief, asking him to furnish details of action taken in the case.

"We have taken suo motu congnisance (of the incident) and given the local police time till tomorrow to send their reply," NCW Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said.

The young woman, a Dalit, who is a student at a college in Rohtak, was gangraped by some persons in Bhiwani three years ago. Two of the accused in the Bhiwani incident who are out on bail again committed the same crime along with three other men in Rohtak on Wednesday.

The woman's family has alleged that she was gangraped for the second time by the men as they did not withdraw the rape case against them.
