The three chased a labour contractor till his house in a bid to loot Rs2.5 lakh cash from him. However, the contractor managed to escape and the crowd that had gathered at his home after hearing a gunshot nabbed one of the robbers. He was later handed over to the police.
Ravishankar Prajapati, the labour contractor said in his complaint lodged with Odhav police that the trio began pursuing him after he came out of a State Bank of India (SBI) branch near Gujarat Vepari Maha Mandal's office in Odhav.
"I had withdrawn the cash to pay the salary of my employees and was on my way home on my bike at 12.45pm. However, the robbers perhaps had been observing me for they began to chase me," Prajapati said.
But Prajapati managed to reach his home and rushed to the door with the bag. Sensing that their prey was escaping, the three got hold of the contractor and even tried to snatch the bag. "They even fired a bullet on the ground to terrorise me so that I let go off the bag," the contractor further said.
However, hearing the gunshot, neighbours rushed to Prajapati's house and nabbed one of the robbers, while the other two managed to speed away on their bike. Soon, a crowd gathered there and they thrashed the robber who was nabbed. He was later handed over to Odhav police.
The police admitted the robber to Civil Hospital, where he regained consciousness after brief treatment. During interrogation, the man identified himself as one Ranjangiri Gosai, 22, a resident of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The police also recovered a county-made pistol and one live bullet from him.
