PATNA: An RJD leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants even as his supporters clashed with medicos of the Patna Medical College and Hospital here over alleged delay in conducting his autopsy, police said on Wednesday.

Enraged over the incident, junior doctors of the hospital went on an indefinite strike last night demanding adequate security.

Police said RJD leader Pappu Khan was fired at by four motorcycle-borne gunmen while he was going to his residence in his car along with his brother-in-law and another person.

As Khan tried to save himself from the assailants, they chased him and shot him dead from a close range. The two persons accompanying him suffered injuries.

After police took his body to the hospital for post-mortem, Khan's supporters vandalised hospital property and clashed with the junior doctors on duty over "delay" in conducting the autopsy.
