CPI(M) politburo member, Brinda Karat has demanded the government to repeal the Land Acquisition Act of 1894.The CPI(M) leader made this demand while addressing a gathering of people affected by the state government's land lease of 2,780 acres to a cement factory for prospective mining.Karat said that under the garb of the Act, the government was snatching land from poor farmers and tribals and giving it to industrial houses.Strongly criticising the government, she said it was shameful that land records were tampered with to show that the land was uncultivable and not of much worth.
