On Friday, PM Modi evoked historical facts to attack the Congress, reminding the audience of the time Indira Gandhi had jailed former BJP and Jana Sangha leader Vijaye Raje Scindia.

He said: “Congress must answer why during the time of Emergency, Rajmata Ji was jailed for such a long time.’

He said that what Congress couldn’t achieve in 55 years, the BJP had managed in 15 in the state. He said: “Once Madhya Pradesh was BIMARU. When Congress was in power. For 55 years Congress were in power. During all those years, Madhya Pradesh was termed 'Bimaru'. Under Shivraj Chouhan’s leadership, in the last 15 years, definition of MP has changed. It has now become 'Maximum Progress'.”

He added: “When Digvijaya Singh was CM, you knew you were in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat had ended when the roads became bad.”

He also mocked the Congress for not picking a CM candidate, saying those who couldn’t decide a CM candidate couldn’t be trusted with people’s future.

He added: “If you have guts, announce the name of your CM candidate.”

On OROP he said: "Congress only wanted to give Rs 500 crore for OROP, we gave Rs 12,000 crore."

The late Vijayraje Scindia was married to Jiwaji Rao Scindia and was an top BJP and Jan Sangha leader and played a role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Upon the demolition of the Babri Masjid, she'd reportedly said that she could now 'die peacefully without regrets'. 
 

She was earlier a member of Congress and in 1957 contested and won the Guna Lok Sabha seat. She'd later leave the party. 

Her daughter Vasundhara Raje is currently the Rajasthan CM and BJP leader while the late Madhav Rao Scindia was a prominent Congress politician and a former minister. Her grandson, Madhav Rao’s son – Jyotiradiya Scindia – is feted to be one of the top contenders to become CM along with Kamal Nath.

In the 1971 Lok Sabha polls, the Jan Sangha had defied the Indira-wave to win three seats in the Gwalior region – Vijaya Raje Scindia from Bhind, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Gwalior and Madhav Rao from Guna, though the latter eventually left the party to join the Congress.
