RATLAM (MP): A local court on Monday granted bail to the Medical Superintendent and sweeper of a missionary hospital, where skeletal remains of newborns and foetuses were found.

Judicial Magistrate First Class CP Rathore granted bail to the Ratlam Christian Hospital Superintendent Patience Williams and sweeper Jagram on bonds of Rs 10,000 each.

They were arrested for allegedly concealing births through the secret disposal of bodies.

A large number of bones and skulls of newborns and foetuses have been recovered from a pit behind the operation theatre of the hospital since February 17.

Officials were searching the area for more bones, police said adding in all, 437 pieces of bones were recovered till date.

Samples of bones were sent to state medico-legal institute in Bhopal, sources said adding a committee, comprising doctors and environment experts, formed by the District Collector has started the probe.
