Lalu Prasad has been admitted in the Asian Heart hospital at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. He is under observation of cardiac surgeon Ramakanta Panda. Dr Panda, head of Asian Heart Institute, had earlier performed surgery on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"This is a scheduled medical evaluation. There is no cause to panic," a spokesperson for the Asian Heart Institute, located in suburban Bandra Kurla complex, said.

Asked if the 66-year-old leader would undergo a heart surgery, the spokesperson said, "That would be decided only after medical evaluation."
