"It is all part of a conspiracy by my political adversaries. How else can one explain that a woman who had levelled false allegations against me in 2003 was traced after 13 years and prompted to go to the police with a complaint," he said at his first press conference after the FIR was lodged in Delhi a few days back.

Claiming that the people of Uttarakhand loved him, the BJP leader said he will take the matter to the "people's court" where he was confident of getting "justice".

"I have been winning elections continuously since 2002. People are aware of the design of my political foes and will never deprive me of their love," Harak said in a choked voice. He accused the state government of being "out to persecute everyone who went against it".

Alleging that there was "no law-and-order" in Uttarakhand as the government was "out to take revenge on those who had revolted against it on March 18", the BJP leader demanded re-imposition of President's Rule in the state for the sake of a "free-and-fair" Assembly election which is due early next year.
