As per the report, two dozen people, including eight police officers, were injured in the clashes in Sukurhutu, 12 kilometres from Jharkhand’s capital on Monday evening.

“People from both communities threw stones at each other and damaged houses,” the report added.

The rioters, armed with sticks and swords, then turned on the police that reached the venue within 15 minutes of the flare-up.

The report said that the police station in-charge was struck on the head with a stone and had to be hospitalised. With the local police team outnumbered, around 300 additional personnel were rushed to the spot and they cordoned off the village.

Ranchi senior superintendent of police Kuldeep Dwivedi said 93 people from both communities were arrested for allegedly instigating the flare-up.
