NEW DELHI: The greatest symbol of Rajput chivalry Maharana Pratap will finally find a place in Parliament. It is however, no less ironical that the valiant Mewar warrior’s statute will be unveiled just days after Bhariron Singh Shekhawat, a Rajput leader from Rajasthan, demitted office as Vice-President.

Interestingly, the place chosen for installation of the statue was near Gate No 12, an area almost exclusively used by the V-P. The newly elected V-P Hamid Ansari will have more opportunity than anyone else visiting the Parliament to greet Rana Pratap’s statute.

The Parliament House rules require that a statue or the portrait has to be donated by someone for installation.

It was the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Jaswant Singh, also a Rajput, who volunteered to get it built at his own cost and donate it to the Parliament.
