The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry appointed Dr VV Rama Subbarao as executive director. The decision was taken at the executive committee meeting of the chamber. Moreover, a four-member committee was also formed to inquire about the role played by the chamber in the bogus signatures in the attendance register of EGM convened on March 31, 2009.

Dr Subbarao’s responsibility as executive director will include making policy and developing blue print for expansion of GCCI. The chamber is not a registered entity and now the new team of office bearers under leadership of Chintan Parikh wants to get it registered. The new executive director will play a key role in this direction. Dr Subbarao was additional chief secretary, home in government of Gujarat during 2000. Dr Subbarao has been offered a handsome annual package of Rs24 lakh.

In another development, the executive committee formed a four-member panel under chairmanship of vice-president Prakash Bhagwati to find out the role of GCCI in the bogus signature case. The other members of the committee are Rohit Shah, Pratap Chandan and Bhagyesh Soneji.  It should be noted that a criminal case has been filed against former office bearers of GCCI in this regard. The committee will submit its report to the executive committee of the chamber.
