Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh appealed to the Maoists to give up violence and join the national mainstream, if they wish to progress and prosper.

Addressing a public rally in the poll-bound Jharkhand, Singh asked the rebels to follow the example of China and give up Maoist ideology

"They (militants) should give up violence and Maoist ideology. China, which used to practice Maoist ideology, has given it up and it has not only progressed but has become one of the powerful countries of the world. I want appeal to them to join the national main stream," Singh said in Latehar district.

Singh indirectly also hit out at China over border intrusion.

"We want to have friendly relationship with the neighbours. We will not sit ideal but would give a befitting reply, if a country, howsoever powerful, tries to intimidate us," he added.
