According to sources, a relative of a patient in ward no. 8 of the hospital had allegedly manhandled one Dr Ramesh Parmar, a resident doctor, for not immediately responding to the patient’s needs.

The assault reportedly damaged the doctor’s eardrum. This incident triggered off the flash strike by the resident doctors.

Praduman Nagar police registered a case against one Khima Koli, 60, who assaulted the doctor and also arrested him. Dr Parmar was on his routine check when Koli asked him to attend his relative Samjuben and this led to an argument when Koli allegedly slapped him on face.

The incident drew strong reactions from other doctors. Dr Bambhania, the resident medical officer (RMO) of the hospital said, “The out patients' department (OPD) remains closed on Sunday and hence emergency and other services were not affected."
