In an attempt to keep alive the everlasting memories of Machali, the most photographed tigress on earth, the state forest department is set to build a memorial for her. So, next time when you visit the Ranthambhore National Park (RNP) you will find Machali tigress staring at you!

The memorial will be attached to a gallery that would exhibit her 19 years’ journey during which time she ruled the hearts of wildlife lovers.

“The department has geared up to build a memorial for Machali tigress. It would be constructed at a suitable place in the park where the tourists and the wildlife lovers can see her. We have invited tenders for the project and soon work will commence on the same,” said a forest official while informing about the project.

According to sources, plans are afoot to make a memorial at the place where the iconic tigress used to sit and pose for the tourists.

Machali the Tiger Queen of Ranthambhore died at the ripe old age of 19 in August 2016. The Bengal tigress, which dominated a prime, 350-square-mile territory in the park, became a favourite among tourists for her tenacity in the face of incredible odds.

In addition to living much longer than most other tigresses in the wild, which usually live up to around 15 years of age,  Machali killed a 14-foot crocodile, defended her territory against much larger male tigers, and raised cubs even after she’d lost her canine teeth and the use of one eye.

Many consider Machli to have been the most photographed tiger on Earth, and her image appeared in innumerable magazines, newspapers, blogs, calendars, and more. She received several titles during her life: ‘Tigress Queen of Ranthambore’, ‘Lady of the Lakes’ and ‘Crocodile Killer’. She won the “Lifetime Achievement Award” due to her contribution to conservation and tourist attraction. She even has a Facebook page and a stamp has been issued on her name already.

Last year a tribute was given to the tigeress in the form of a 60-minute documentary that captures her journey in the Ranthambhore National Park. The film titled ‘World’s Most Famous Tiger’ was directed by 4 times National Award Winner Filmmaker, S. Nallamuthu who invested nine years filming the life of Machli and her companion and lineage.

Apart from this, the legendary big cat commanded so much love and respect that she was given a state memorial service upon her death in recognition of the deep respect wild life lovers had for the endangered Bengal tigress.
