The caste- region factor is likely to play out in the Cabinet formation by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The dilemma is likely to be in accommodating veteran leaders along with MLAs who are close to Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin Pilot, his deputy.

Gehlot is known to go for caste balance, be it at the CMO (chief minister's office) or the Cabinet he heads. In the latest team of joint secretaries deployed in the CMO, he hardly left any dominant caste from the representation.

Now comes the formation of the Cabinet which would be a balance of caste and regions. Representatives of Jat, Rajput, Brahmin, Vaishya, Muslim, ST and SC communities shall be inducted in the Cabinet which is expected to be the size of 15-20 ministers.

Sources said three Jats may take oath as cabinet ministers, while one may have to be content with the portfolio of a state minister. The probable candidates are Narendra Budania, Lalchand Kataria, Hemaram Choudhary, Brijendra Ola, Govind Dotasara, Mahendra Choudhhary, Vinod Choudhary and Ramlal Jat.

From Brahmin community, CP Joshi, Raghu Sharma, Bhanwar Lal Sharma, Mahesh Joshi, Rajkumar Sharma, BD Kalla and Rajendra Pareek and from Rajput quota Deependra Singh, Bharat Singh, Bhanwer Singh Bhati, Pratap Singh Khachariawas and Gajendra Singh Shaktawat may become ministers.

The problem before Gehlot is to pick from the leaders who have a hold on their region. Many of them are those who served him as ministers during his second term.

Besides, he has to adjust Pilot and his camp in the Cabinet and in the process, he may have to sacrifice his preferred choice. For instance, from Hadauti region, Pramod Jain Bhaya from Pilot camp and Shanti Dhariwal from Gehlot camp are frontrunners to grab cabinet portfolio. Both belong to Vaishya community.
