Sunil Arora, a Rajasthan cadre officer, assumed the charge of the new Election Commissioner of India on Friday. The 1980 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre, superannuated on April 30, 2016, as Secretary, Information and Broadcasting. During 36 years of his long service, he held various crucial positions in Rajasthan and in the Central government.

During his term in the IB ministry, Arora was involved in the implementation of Digital Addressable System (DAS) in Phase III areas. The Phase III FM radio auctions also took place during his tenure.
