NEW DELHI: Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Milind Deora are among those chosen to be part of the Indian delegation to the United Nations for the General Assembly session starting later this week.

The delegation will be led by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and include 12 MPs — five from the Congress, four from the BJP, two from the CPI(M) and one from the NCP. Mukherjee will address the assembly on September 26.

Traditionally, India has been represented at the General Assembly by the Prime Minister. Atal Bihari Vajpayee made it point to travel to New York for the session and Manmohan Singh has continued the tradition, until now.
