Pitching for Rahul Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday asked Congress workers to work hard so that he becomes the Prime Minister after 2014 polls.

Eyeing a position at the Centre after holding the CM post for three terms, Dikshit praised Gandhi at the Pradesh Congress Committee meeting.

“We should not forget the sacrifices made by Sonia Gandhi and the vision of Rahul Gandhi,” said Dikshit.

Stating that only the Congress could lead the country, the Delhi CM said, “No other political party, be it the BJP, the RJD or the Janata Dal, can give this country a stable government.”

Dikshit said that instead of focussing on the 2013 state assembly elections, Congress should start gearing up for the 2014 general elections. “To win the 2014 elections, we need to put aside our personal differences and follow the instructions of the party high command. We must bridge our differences for national interest,” she said.

In the meeting, that was held to facilitate the newly appointed Delhi in-charge Shakeel Ahmed, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president JP Agarwal chose to bury all past rifts between him and Dikshit. He announced that all was well between him and the CM.

“Dikshit is the face of Delhi and we will contest the upcoming elections under her leadership,”said Agarwal.

Dikshit, however, gave a lukewarm response to Agarwal’s statement. She also skipped the press briefing after the event.

While both leaders claim to have ended their differences, the supporters of Dikshit and Agarwal were seen cheering their own leaders.

Ahmed while addressing the gathering announced that the team for Delhi polls will be announced on Friday.

He said that Congress was a secular party and that there should be no differences among party members on communal lines.

The meet was also attended by senior leaders including Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi, party secretary Kunjit Singh Nagra and Jagdish Tytler. All the Congress MPs, MLAs, councillors and members of National Students’ Union of India and Seva Dal were present at the meet.
