After touring UP to Gujarat, Congress president Rahul Gandhi is now in poll bound Madhya Pradesh to continue his temple hopping. On Thursday, before kicking off the poll campaign, Gandhi began his two-day visit with offering prayers at the Kamta Nath temple in Satna district's Chitrakoot.

He choose the town closely associated with Lord Ram, on a day when the Supreme Court in its judgment set the stage for the verdict on the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute in Ayodhya—believed to be birthplace of Lord Ram.

The Kamta Nath temple is located on the forested hill of Kamadgiri, where, according to mythology, Lord Ram stayed during his exile. He addressed a corner meeting in Chitrakoot before leaving for Satna city in a helicopter. He was accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath, state party campaign committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Leader of Opposition in MP Assembly Ajay Singh.

On Friday, he will travel by bus to address public meetings in Saipur Mod, Baron, Baikunthpur, Lalgaon, and Chunari villages across Rewa and Satna.

During his earlier visit on September 17, Gandhi held a roadshow in Bhopal after performing a puja and taking blessings from 11 priests. He had visited the state after returning from the Kailash Mansarovar yatra, which he undertook to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva. Posters had been put up in Bhopal, where he was referred to as a 'Shiv bhakt'.

In September 2016, while kick starting a poll campaign for the UP Assembly elections, he visited the Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya, becoming the first member of the Gandhi family to visit the holy city since the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.

While campaigning for Gujarat Assembly polls, he had visited around 20 temples across the state. He also offered prayers at the Somnath Temple. The Congress was not able to wrest Gujarat from BJP, but did manage to increase its vote share from 39 per cent in 2012 to 41.5 per cent.

‘SHALL CHANGE GST’

Alleging that Modi government has destroyed small businesses through demonetisation and GST, Rahul said if his party comes to power it will change the GST.
