Days after Punjab University banned shorts on girl students in the hostel mess, the authorities revoked the move on Friday.

The varsity had put a ban on girl students wearing shorts in the hostel common room, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Earlier, the Punjab University banned students from wearing shorts in the library. Both boys and girls were not allowed to wear shorts in the library.

Earlier in February, an Uttar Pradesh-run medical college banned medical students from wearing jeans and t-shirts to college. In addition, students from the state-run Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) in Kanpur have now been banned from growing their hair or growing stylish beards.

Medical College authorities claimed that indiscipline was growing in the college campus due to wearing of informal dresses and keeping stylish beards.

“We have students coming from abroad for medical studies. It was found that indiscipline was growing the college campus for the past few years due to informal dressing. After discussion, the management has decided to enforce the new dress code,” said a senior faculty member.

Under the new rules, only formals were allowed and keeping any style of beard is banned. Men are supposed to shave every day and keep their hair well-groomed. People who are dressed casually or coming to college in an unkempt way will be barred from entering the college premises.
