Punjab's Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot today directed forest department officials to accord necessary approvals for felling trees in faster mode for constructing ultra-modern road network in the state.

Dharamsot issued the order after his meeting with the PWD Minister Razia Sultana, as per an official release.

Dharamsot also instructed the forest officers to ensure planting of trees along the soon-to-come-up highways.

"This is absolutely necessary to maintain the forest cover as well as ecological balance," he said.

Dharamsot also instructed the departmental officers to explore the possibilities of planting more trees alongside state and national highways and submit a report within a month, the release further said.
